This policy has been developed by Triathlon Alberta and Triathlon BC, and is utilized by MultiSportsCanada to ensure appropriate and consistent decision-making when an event’s Field of Play is impacted by low visibility or forest fire smoke.

Air Quality Monitoring
We use the official Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) reporting provided by the Government of Alberta:

Event Cancellation Threshold
If the Air Quality Health Index reaches a level of 7 or greater, the event will be cancelled.
Participants will be notified 72 hours in advance with the current Air Quality forecast.
Because conditions can change rapidly, a final decision will be made the morning of the event.
📍 View the current forecast map at the link above for up-to-date readings.
Registration & Refund Policy
All permits, event materials, and post-event commitments are finalized well in advance of race day, including:
Medals, shirts, and merchandise
Meals and catering
Venue and permit fees
As such, no refunds, credits, or rollovers will be issued if the event is cancelled due to air quality or related environmental conditions.
If cancellation occurs, all event merchandise will be mailed to registered participants.
Commitment to Safety
The safety of athletes, volunteers, and spectators remains our top priority. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and communicate updates as they become available.
